MUD collective was formed in 2024 by Julia Belmore and Grace Stamler as a queer feminist art collective dedicated to amplifying the voices of underrepresented artists in Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang/Montréal. Following its debut exhibition at gallery Ada X, MUD aims to facilitate more initiatives in the coming year, including another exhibition, a publication, and a workshop series.

Julia Belmore
Julia Belmore is a multi-disciplinary artist from Toronto, Canada. Currently studying and living in Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang/Montréal, pursuing a BFA at Concordia university. Belmore works across a range of media, including film photography, screen print, with their main focus in sculpture. With a focus on themes of identity and discovery, particularly through the lens of Chinese Canadian history, the experiences of mixed-race individuals, and the complex dynamics of diaspora and cultural disconnection.
Grace Stamler
Grace Stamler
Based in Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang/Montreal, Grace Stamler uses experimental video installation—a mirrored distortion of real life—to explore the queer, in all its definitions. With a background in Psychology and personal experience within Canada’s mental health system, her practice was born from a history of disowning the inexplicable. Now, her work is an asylum for the freaky, the abnormal, the absurd; a space for the inexplicable to exist without justification. In it, she aims to foster conversation about patriarchy, capitalism, the psychiatric-medical industrial complex, and lesbian-queer experience.
